We decided to update our blog network to include new content. It is amazing that in two years and no new content, we’re still making money monthly. The decision to begin posting new content was a slow one in the making, but quick in execution.
The first thing we need to do was choose which blogging software platform to use. I am the more technical of the team, so this task fell to me. I looked at the following packages:
- Drupal
- Joomla
- Xoops
- WordPress
Of the four it became very obvious that WordPress was the easiest to get up and running. Yes, this is coming from someone who used to be a diehard Drupal fan.
I installed WordPress and played with the multiple site support, since I didn’t want to have to update/install ten sites. It didn’t work as I expected; I couldn’t figure out how to map the domains under sub-directories to their actual domains. For instance, I created a firstbabytips sub-directory, created the DNS record and mapped it using the plugin. Fail. When I went to firstbabytips.com it pulled up fortheinfo.com/firstbabytips.
Oh, well.
I quickly decided 10 installs of Word Press would be fine.
Druapl, Joomla and Xoops seemed more complex and just too much for the quick ramp up time I am looking for. In the end it came down to ease of use and familiarity.
